Layers upon layers we wear,
cover ourselves from head to toe
and add masks to blend in.
Then we keep searching
For a friendĀ or foe,
in the crowd of masked strangers,
with painted smiles and empty eyes.
We see but do not look,
come across everyone,
but do not pay attention;
because masks do not recognize each other,
and faces have been long forgotten.
